Frequently asked questions

How do I sell my dress?

First you can complete the form on the ‘sell your dress’ page of our website. Once we have received your inquiry we can assess if your dress is suitable for our collection. We will get back to you with-in 14 days if your dress is successful. We will give you the sale price of your dress and details for drop off or postage.

How much will my dress sell for?

Once you have submitted your application, we will get back to you with a sale price. Items are priced based on extensive research. Each item is assessed and priced according to the RRP, the brand, the condition of your dress and how old it is. Your price estimate is usually between 70%-50% of the RRP.

Once we have worked out your price estimate we will also calculate our commission for selling your dress, but we only take commission if your dress sells.

How long will my dress take to sell?

This really depends on style, size, designer ect. Current designer stock can sell more quickly than older more unique styles. Do not expect your dress to sell within 2-3 months of consigning. Although this can happen it can also take a lot longer to find the perfect bride for your dress. That is why we have a minimum consignment period of 12 months. You can help your dress get sold quicker by giving us lots of high quality photos and also sharing on your social media. If your dress isn’t getting any enquiries we may suggest reducing the cost of the gown.

How much commission do you take?

The Mrs Edit takes 35% commission.

Do I calculate alterations into the RRP of the dress?

Alterations do not usually add to the price of the dress, depending on the type of alteration or how it has been done it can decrease the value of the dress if the alteration cannot be reversed (for example taking a large amount from the length may limit the number of brides that it fits). Give us the RRP without alterations and list in detail any alterations that have been done to help us estimate your sale price.

What if I change my mind and no longer wish to sell my dress?

If you submit your application on our website then decide not to proceed with the consignment, don’t stress, you have not yet committed to consigning your dress. Once you sign the consignment contact you agree to consign your dress with us for a 12 month period. This allows us the time to properly market your dress and assess its ability to sell in the market.

How will I get my dress to you?

Once your application is confirmed we will be in touch to give you a list of drop off times if you are local to Newcastle. Otherwise you can arrange to send your garment via registered post, we receive dresses from all around the Australia via post.

What if my dress doesn’t sell?

If your dress doesn’t sell within the 12 month consignment period we will reach out to you to discuss options. We may consider keeping your dress on a month by month basis to continue to sell it for you or if we don’t think we can sell your dress we may request that you pick it up, or it can be returned via post at the consigners expense.
